John Folawn's practice focuses on complex civil litigation in a variety of areas, including legal malpractice, business and commercial, insurance, and trust and estate litigation. John is regarded as one of the best jury trial lawyers in Oregon, particularly in the area of legal malpractice law which has been a major part of his practice for over 30 years. Additionally, he has has extensive trial experience in insurance matters of all types, including business interruption, fire, environmental and construction defect coverage. Recently, his insurance practice has focused on representing business and individual policyholders in coverage disputes and bad faith situations.
Since 1976, John has tried nearly 200 civil jury trials, numerous bench trials and has also had an active appellate practice with nearly 40 appeals to the Oregon Court of Appeals, Oregon Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

He has made presentations to the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Oregon State Bar, the Multnomah Bar Association and the Oregon Law Institute on a variety of trial related issues. He has co-authored the trust litigation chapter in the Oregon State Bar CLE book on Trusts, the construction contract chapter in the Oregon State Bar CLE book on Damages and has published articles on jury selection and expert witness issues.
John earned his B.S. from the University of Oregon in 1967. He then attended the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and graduated with his J.D. in 1970. Before entering private practice in 1976, John served as a Captain in the Army Judge Advocate General's Corps where he prosecuted serious felony cases.
